Random drug testing of people with chronic pain has become more common. The purpose is to identify illicit drug use and ensure patients are taking their prescribed medications, but there remains insufficient proof of efficacy.
Not only is evidence lacking that drug testing improves patient care and reduces healthcare costs, but articles suggest drug labs are making billions of dollars from these expensive procedures.
