Featured Pain Art: “Fairyland of Pain”

PE.Shuey_FairylandI drew this fairy when I was having a trigeminal nerve pain episode. Shooting and burning on the left side of my face. The tears and nerve roots buried into her cheeks. I feel that this piece describes me and my horrible pain best.

“Fairyland of Pain”

Art courtesy of PainExhibit.org, an online educational, visual arts exhibit from artists with chronic pain who use art to express some facet of the pain experience.

The Pain Exhibit’s mission is to educate healthcare providers and the public about chronic pain through art, and to give voice to the many who suffer in silence.

Many experts, such as myself and Body-Mind doctor, surgeon, and author Bernie Seigel, believe that self caricatures are cathartic, and pictures speak a thousand words. What better way to let those around you see how pain affects you.

Even though talent is not necessary, you are certainly blessed.
