Featured Pain Art: “Self Portrait”

StockThe person in the picture is me. I tried to portray the feeling of chronic pain, how I feel like my body is being eaten by acid and disintegrating. The mask is the happy face I have to put on for the world. The darkness is where I am mentally. The bright lights are painful to me, but must be endured for the sake of my public image.

Art courtesy of PainExhibit.org, an online educational, visual arts exhibit from artists with chronic pain who use art to express some facet of the pain experience.

The Pain Exhibit’s mission is to educate healthcare providers and the public about chronic pain through art, and to give voice to the many who suffer in silence.
