Featured Pain Art: “Suffering for Art”

PE.Paterson_SufferingThe pain of rheumatoid arthritis can make it feel like if I move my hand while drawing, everything will disintegrate. The flames represent searing hot pain in the joints, the cracking represents the slow destruction of my body by this disease. The pain, like my drawings, becomes my world.

Art courtesy of PainExhibit.org, an online educational, visual arts exhibit from artists with chronic pain who use art to express some facet of the pain experience.

The Pain Exhibit’s mission is to educate healthcare providers and the public about chronic pain through art, and to give voice to the many who suffer in silence.

The powerful image best describes how central pain syndrome constantly burns my hand.
