The Strongest Weed for Pain Relief

The 3 top strains of marijuana for pain relief. We discuss what each strain will provide in the way of effects, and which strains are best for general pain and inflammation.

Pain is the number one reason patients turn to medical marijuana. This pain can be derived from a variety of conditions. A person may have pain because they were in a car accident or they may have chronic pain due to cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy.

You’ll find that there is big debate of sativa vs. Indica strains when it comes to combating pain with cannabis.

Sativa weed is often the preferred strain because it provides an energetic high. Indica is known to provide a full-body high, which would be the ideal choice for anyone with severe body pain. A person that may be suffering from the effects of chemotherapy would likely prefer indica. But patients are not limited to just one or the other when it comes to marijuana strains. In some cases, a hybrid strain may be the best option for your pain.

The strongest weed for one person may be drastically different than the preferred weed for another person’s pain.

Let’s take a look at the top 3 strains of weed for pain.

1.     ACDC

If doctors have to choose one strain that is the most effective at helping a patient with pain, it is definitely ACDC. This strain has high amounts of both THC and CBD. A hybrid, this strain will provide the user with:

  • Relaxation
  • Intense focus
  • Slight energy increase
  • Slight your euphoric feeling
  • Happiness

You won’t become a couch potato after taking this strain, but you also won’t have the immense uplifting effect of a sativa-dominant strain either.

2.     Blackberry Kush

Anyone that is having severe pain should seek a strain of marijuana that is high in THC. Sometimes, you want to take your mind off of the pain and simply numb the body. This is exactly what Blackberry Kush provides to you.

You’ll feel:

  • Lazy and relaxed
  • A euphoric high
  • Sleepy
  • Happy
  • Creative

You definitely don’t want to take Blackberry Kush if you have to go to work or school, but you do want to take it if you have severe pain.

3.     Harlequin

Harlequin is the ideal strain of marijuana if you have an injury or disease that causes inflammation. A good example of this is arthritis. What makes this strain so special is that as a high CBD content.

You’ll notice an immediate euphoric a feeling, while also being focused and uplifted.

Euphoria will come over you, and you’ll have a clear mind that allows you to stay focused. I would recommend this strain of marijuana for anyone who has school, work or needs to stay focused for any reason.

I just want to comment. I am a chronic pain sufferer for over 10 years due to Neuro Sarcoidosis. My pain mngmnt has been long, however my doctors were able to find the right cocktail of meds. Delta Roberts, I too take Methadone and have for 15 years. However Methadone alone does not help much with real pain. Have you discussed Fentenyl Patches with your team? They are time released…so you arent chasing the pain with a pill….I take 300 mcg of Fentenyl (patch) every 48 hrs, 8mg of Methadone a day, and 10 mg of Hydromorphone. Hydromorphone is also my “breakthrough”, and I take when the pain gets too bad to breath. HOWEVER, I was taking 16 mg of Methadone and 30 mg of Hydromorphone daily until I found weed. I started smoking everyday, and was able to cut my pills down significantly. I go today (i live in NYS) to get my medicinal marijuana in tincture form (under tongue)….Jacob- CBD is what helps pain…THC is what gets you high…..a lot of people dont use medicinal to get high….we need high cbd for pain mngmt without the high so we can function day to day…..getting “high” is not the name of the game here..

ACDC is low in THC and hi CBD .I think you have to find the one that works for you. Its also good for constipation I find that the white widow works that department for me.

  5. Delbert Roberts at 5:15 am

My name is Delbert Roberts I was in a motorcycle wreck in 1980 and have suffered from paraplegia ever sence I have steel rods holding my spine together and a considerable amount of chro if pain for several years , The pain management doctors have done about all they can do for me I have been on the same medication. For the last fifteen years and they are unable or unwilling to give me anything except methadone.I have been studying cannabis for years now but we don’t have access to good quality marijuana in South Carolina it is black market only.It is a shame our government has kept this wonderful plant illegal and vilified sence the 1930s

Does anyone have a list of states that allow medical Marijuana use for pain? The more I research, the more I think this would work much better than the many oral pain medications I currently have to manage my pain. I’m too young to be home bound due to severe pain. Thanks for any help.

Anything with Blueberry in it is great for pain.

You may want to do more research. ACDC is known to have upwards of 19% cbd and little to NO THC… I.e. Does not get one high nor will they feel psycho active effects….

This is too funny! I had paperwork for a card signed since June 2015 but didn’t actually pick a shop and get the card until December and received card last week. I’d held off so long because I just didn’t know what to do. I finally went into the shop today with exactly what strain is best for pain! This could not have been more timely. I will print and share a copy with the shop. TY

I really appreciate this info. I am trying to find just the right strain to help with pain, but also with sleep. Nightime is the worst for me and I need help reducing the pain enough so that it doesn’t wake me once I’m asleep, and something that will help me relax so that I can fall asleep. Most of the best ones that I have found for pain, keep me awake….so not good at bedtime.
    Thank you for this information.

I’ve suffered with cps and Fibromyalgia for over 10 years now.on a large amount of pain meds. I have used weed for a lot longer. My consumption is now pain led and not a buzz.
It helps with pain levels which means I can lead a fuller life.

That’s interesting to know. I think this type of education on MMj is very appropriate and helpful for those who don’t have a background with MMj. More educations would even be better! Thank you, Helen.
