Michael Douglas is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy to treat a walnut-sized tumor at the base of his tongue.

It was discovered at the beginning of the month, and he announced his diagnosis of throat cancer on August 16.

On the Late Show with David Letterman, Michael Douglas on Tuesday said, “My cancer is late stage four. This is the worst stage it could be at, but the cancer does remain above my neck and that is a good sign.

“The doctors give me an 80% chance of recovery. I am very optimistic that I can beat this”, he said. “The lifestyle I have led, with smoking and drinking, was probably the cause of this.”

Michael Douglas sought help from doctors for months and was having problems with his throat. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael’s wife is very angry and upset that his throat cancer was not discovered earlier. The way it was eventually discovered was through a biopsy.

Michael and Catherine have two children and have been married for ten years. The actress has admitted this has been extremely stressful for her to see her husband Michael looking tired all the time.

Mr. Douglas is 65 years old.
